Frequently Asked Questions
Why Choose Big Sky Boudoir?
While Boudoir photography is something that is gaining in popularity in our market we always will encourage you to do your research before choosing a studio or photographer. There are different levels of experience, talent, style and price. You should choose a photographer whose style matches what you are looking for, and a photographer who will give you that comfortablility for such an intimate setting.
I am not "modelesque"...can I do this??
YES! We pride ourselves in being able to work with clients of all different sizes, ages and body types. Nobody comes in thinking they look perfect, as we ALL have different things about our bodies that we are self-conscious about.
The images you see on this website are of regular women who have gained confidence through professionally-styled hair and make-up, and the encouragement from our photographer throughout the shoot.
It is normal to feel nervous and worry about not being a model, but we promise you that by the end you will look just just as gorgeous as the other women pictured on our website. No matter what you look like, and open mind, trust and a little CONFIDENCE are always the best features you can have.
Can I purchase ALL of the pictures taken during my shoot?
The short answer, No. There are hundreds of pictures taken during the shoot, and it is expected that the majority will end up on the cutting room floor for various reasons. Some will simply be test shots before exposure and other settings aren't ideal. Others will be shots leading up to the perfect moment when you as the model are in perfect position. And many others will simply not be ideal shots for whatever reason. This happens with every photo shoot no matter who the photographer is or who the client is. We do not release unedited or unfinished images from our studio.
I’d love to do an intimate boudoir session with my significant other – do you offer this?
While the majority of our sessions are with individual women, we DO, and love to photograph couples in intimate shoots.
With Couples Boudoir its all about the connection that the couple shares, and building on the bond and that love. We love being able to capture that love, emotions and feelings and turn them into a beautiful image that you can have to remind you of that wonderful love you have created.
Can I make payments?
Yes! Of Course! We understand everyone has their own way of handling their finances. If you are interested in a session let us know and we can run you through the payment plan processes.
Where can I find some ideas for clothing, poses, etc.?
Check out our Pinterest page, or see hundreds of pictures in our galleries, or facebook womens only group, where you can find many ideas for different poses, outfits, looks and more. If you have a specific style or look you are wanting we can help you create a mood board just for your session!
Do I need to buy new outfits?
We have also invested thousands of dollars on our own Boudoir Closet. While we encourage you to go shopping for your own wardrobe/lingerie for your session (this in itself is a huge confidence booster), we understand that the investment can be difficult. Especially justifying the cost if lingerie is not something you normally wear or utalize on a every day basis. We have compiled over 500+ pieces for your use from 00-5x, jewelery, stockings, sweaters, and other accessories in all shapes, styles and colors we can help you choose something that will work perfectly for your session.
Also, although shopping is fun and can give you a great boost of confidence, using some of your favorite items that you already have can make you feel even sexier – like a button-down shirt, your favorite t-shirt or a cardigan with cute underwear and killer shoes. Or a strategically-placed scarf or tie with your favorite jeans. With boudoir, sometimes less is more. Fancy lingerie is fun but you don’t have to spend a lot of money on a new wardrobe for your shoot. Think of things that are sexy and subtle.
Do I have to use your makeup artist and hairstylist, or can I do my own?
Even if you are yourself a makeup artist or self proclaimed hair guru, we want you to have our professional hair and makeup artists work with you. Makeup for professional photos (especially boudoir) is much different than makeup you use for everyday life. It is also a way to for you to relax before your shoot and feel pampered – it is very much a part of the overall experience. Our hair and makeup artist will work with you to create the the perfect look, whether you want natural or glam. You can feel confident that you will look flawless.
Can I bring a friend to my shoot?
This is compltely up to you! Sometimes your best friend is exactly what you need to calm your nerves and give you the reassurance you need to get started with your session! Sometimes having an audience can make you a little more self-conscious, and hinder your ability to really embrace the experience.
I’m a curvy girl, is that an issue?
Absolutely not! In fact, we love curvy girls. It is not about size, it is about who you are and the confidence you bring to the shoot. Curves are beautiful and we love to celebrate them. Plus we know exactly how to pose you and use lighting to show you at your best!
What is the average age of your clients? Do you photograph older women?
ABSOLUTELY!!! Our client base has variee from 18-74, with our average client between 28-45. We welcome women of all ages to come and enjoy the experience of celebrating YOU!
Will my photos be on the internet?
Not unless you say it’s ok, your privacy and comfortablility come first. While we wish we could share every image captured in our studio we understand that's not always possible. Every client featured on our website/fb/instagram has given written permission to post their images. If you aren’t comfortable with any images being shared, that is completely fine! You can rest absolutely assured that your images will never be shared without your permission. Once you book your session you will be sent a contract with options as to what you are comfortable in us sharing, whether thats no images at all, just in our womens only group, or maybe just in studio the choice is yours. We will never tag you in any images posted on social media. You always have the option of changing your mind, we will just resend you a new contract release. We retouch your images in-house. We do NOT send your images off to an outsourced editing company leaving them vulnerable to being stolen.
I have cellulite/stretch marks/acne. Can you get rid of that?
Retouching is included with every session. We remove scars as requested, acne, blemishes, stretchmarks and cellulite in addition to bruises and other random marks you may have on the day of your session.
I can’t make my shoot date, can I reschedule?
Life happens! However, if you contact us to reschedule with less than 14 days notice, you forget about your appointment or you reschedule more than once, the portion of the session fee that you’ve already paid is not transferable. When we book a session we block that day and paying a hair and makeup artist to block their calendar. We also turning away people interested in shooting that day. We ask that your session is rescheduled within 30 days of your original session date.
What is your refund policy?
Due to the custom nature of photography, the session fee and anything you purchase is non-refundable. We are committed to working with you to ensure you love your photos.
Where do the shoots take place?
We have a gorgeous 1100sq ft. natural light studio in Pocatello, Idaho. We have beautiful staged sets that are perfect and customizable for any session. All of our sessions and consultations are done by appointment only due to the intimate nature of our work.
How far in advance should I book my session?
We have some sessions booked 12+ months out. However we ask that your book your session a minimum of 6 weeks before you are wanting or needing your product selections. This gives us time for the shoot, your viewing, and post production, processing and printing.
What is Boudoir Photography?
What should I do to prepare?
After you book your session we will send out our Contract, a Questionnaire and a list of Do's and Don'ts for your upcoming session. Please read through these carefully. This will cover exactly how you should prepare your face, body, and mind for your photo shoot, as well as a complete list of resources for beauty appointments and wardrobe for your photo shoot! Once we recieve your questionnaire we can furthur direct you into any other preparations you will need specific to the wants for your shoot.
How much can you “edit out”?
We "Photoshop" very little. We rely on strategic poses and angles to play down "problem" areas. We WILL edit out minor blemishes/skin flaws as well as simple things like under-eye circles and small scars (IF you request the scar-removal). Our main rule of thumb is, if it’s permanent, it stays. Tattoos included. (unless otherwise specified) As far as stretch marks go, most women have them—and most of the time, our skin-smoothing editing technique will buff out most average stretch marks. If you would like more extensive editing, we can do that as well.
We will work with what you’ve got and prove to you that you ARE BEAUTIFUL and these will be the best set of photos you have of yourself! Our post-processing techniques are more focused on color, contrast, sharpening, etc, rather than body morphing.
How many outfits can I wear?
Our average 60 minute session we can usually get in 4-5 outfit changes. We will always do a variety of outfits and posing to ensure you have a great selection to choose from!
